Daniel J. Messina, PhD, MPA, FACHE

Dr. Messina serves as President and CEO of Richmond University Medical Center. As President and CEO, Dan is responsible for execution of the mission of the organization including but not limited to quality and financial performance, market share growth, program development, infrastructure and facility, medical staff enterprise development, and growing the Medical Center’s Foundation. Under Dr. Messina’s leadership the hospital is undergoing approximately $250 million in development that will position the organization well into the future. 

Prior to Richmond University Medical Center, Dr. Messina served for 10 years at Hackensack University Medical Center as Vice President for Operations and 13 years as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Centrastate Health Care System. 

Dr. Messina currently serves on the board of trustees of the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), the Health Association of New York State (HANYS), and the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC). He is a past member of Regional Policy Group II of the American Hospital Association as well as a trustee on the board of the National MS Society and Chair of the New Jersey Chapter. Dr. Messina has been the recipient of several national, state and local awards including the American College of Healthcare Executives where he served two terms as Regent, HANYS, Seton Hall University, the New Dorp High School Hall of Fame, the DaVinci Society and the Atlas Foundation to name a few. 

Dan earned his AS in Liberal Arts and Science from the College of Staten Island, a BS in Health Science from LIU Brooklyn where he played Division I Baseball, an MPA in Health Care Administration from CW Post College, LIU and a PhD in Health Science with a specialization in Health Care Leadership from Seton Hall University. 

Dan is a sports and exercise enthusiast having ran 9 NYC Marathons and hiked several mountains worldwide including summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. His greatest joy is his family beginning with his wife, daughter and son and 3 grandchildren.
