RUMC Marks National Cancer Survivors Day with Ceremonies Honoring Survivors & Educating the Public

Events with Survivors & Public Education Marks 28th Annual National Cancer Survivors Day

Staten Island, NY ― Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) today celebrated the 28th Annual National Cancer Survivors Day with public ceremonies at its West Brighton campus. The day's events included remarks from survivors of cancer, RUMC personnel providing cancer screening and health and wellness information, including on the Look Good, Feel Better program designed to assist women dealing with hair loss and skin changes from chemotherapy and radiation. Additionally, the hospital received an award recognizing its work on colon cancer screening from the American Cancer Society. "Despite the adversities they face, cancer survivors continue to show resilience by living active, productive lives," stated RUMC President and CEO Daniel J. Messina, Ph.D., LNHA, FACHE, who delivered the keynote address at the event. "They face each day with courage and dignity in their fight against cancer and serve as an inspiration to all of us." National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual, worldwide celebration of life that is held in hundreds of communities throughout the world. A cancer survivor is defined by the National Cancer Survivor Day Foundation as anyone living with a history of cancer diagnosis - from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life.
