RUMC's CEO competes in 5K Run/Walk to benefit hospital's new pediatric unit

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- More than 175 people stepped off recently for Richmond University Medical Center's second annual 5K Run/Walk in Clove Lakes Park, including the West Brighton's president and CEO, Danial Messina.

"On behalf of everyone at RUMC, we want to thank each and every person who ran or walked to benefit our new pediatric unit," Messina said. "Our smallest patients will be the true winners because of everyone who laced up their running and walking shoes for a great cause."

Proceeds from the Sept. 9 event will help to support the pediatric unit of the hospital's new Emergency Department. Construction is projected to begin in early 2019.

The rain held off and cloudy skies in no way deterred runners from taking part in the challenging course that weaved its way around the park's lake, hills, and playing fields.

FYI: RUMC is a not-for-profit healthcare provider serving the ethnically diverse community of Staten Island and its neighbors that provides premier-quality patient care through a full spectrum of emergent, acute, primary, behavioral health and educational services.

The winner of the men's division was Dave Michaels with a time of 19:31.3. His closest opponent was Francesco Rotatori, who crossed the finish line with a time of 19:43.3.

In the women's division, first place went to Isabelle Cammayo with a time of 21:33.4, only a few seconds ahead of second place finisher Jen Gregorio with a time of 21:40.5.
