RUMC remembers 9/11 with ceremony at West Brighton hospital

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. --Physicians, staffers, first responders and community leaders will gather at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Richmond University Medical Center to honor those lost in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Participants should meet in front of the 9/11 Memorial adjacent to the main entrance at 355 Bard Avenue in West Brighton. RUMC will not only pay tribute to the victims of the attacks, but also honor members of the military.

"[RUMC] has has held a ceremony each year to mark the anniversary of the events that changed our city and our country. For many it's hard to believe that 17 years has passed," said CEO Daniel Messina.

"But as each year goes by it is important for all of us to reflect on that day, remember the lives lost, the courage of those who rushed into harm's way to help complete strangers, and to thank the men and women of our Armed Forces today who protect our freedom every day."

The ceremony will include tributes, a moment of silence, and reflections from the first responders who participated in the rescue operations 17 years ago.

RUMC, is a not-for-profit healthcare provider serving the ethnically diverse community of S.I. and its neighbors.
