Richmond University Medical Center Participates in Holy White Mass

November 12, 2019 – Physicians, nurses and medical practitioners of all faiths participated in the Holy White Mass for Healthcare Professionals, held on November 7 at St. Theresa’s Church in Castleton Corners. Held each year, the special mass celebrates the contribution of health care providers, regardless of their faith, and thanks them for their care of others in need.

“This solemn mass is called the ‘white mass’ in honor of the traditional white coats and uniforms worn in the health care profession,” Richard Salhany,  president of Richmond University Health Network and RUMC chief administration officer, said. Salhany, an ordained deacon, participated in the mass.

The mass included a ceremonial Blessing of the Healing Hands and prayers for continued spiritual support for medical professionals across Staten Island and New York City. At the conclusion of the mass, honors were presented to individuals in recognition of their dedication and determination to help others in need. This year’s recipients were Richmond University Medical Center president and chief executive officer, Dr. Daniel J. Messina; Dr. Donna P. Seminara; Dr. Gail A. Beldia; and physician assistant Michael Bruno.
