Richmond University Medical Center Receives Hand Sanitizer from Local Brewery

May 13, 2020 – Over a dozen bottles of hand sanitizer was donated to Richmond University Medical Center today thanks to “Impractical Jokers” star Brian “Q” Quinn, owner of Rubsam & Horrmann Brewing Company. Quinn has partnered with Kings County Distillery in Brooklyn to convert the brewery’s Pilsner, IPA and Amber beers into hand sanitizer for police officers, firefighters and hospital workers on the COVID-19 frontline.

Physicians, nurses and staff from RUMC’s emergency department which has treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients gratefully accepted the donation outside the hospital. R & H’s chief operations officer, Cara S. Gordon, personally delivered the bottles which have an alcohol content of 80 percent. R & H donated over 1,400 gallons of beer to be converted into hand sanitizer. The conversion process will result in over 900 bottles of hand sanitizer which will be distributed around Staten Island.

According to R & H Brewery, the hand sanitizer follows World Health Organization (WHO) and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements. It contains glycerin, hydrogen peroxide and denaturant, a substance added to alcohol to make it unfit for drinking. The donated sanitizer will immediately be put into circulation throughout the hospital, which has discharged over 400 COVID-19 patients since March.

“On behalf of everyone at RUMC, our thanks to Brian, R & H Brewing Company, and Kings County Distillery for this donation to our hospital,” president and chief executive officer, Dr. Daniel J. Messina, said. “This is another moving example of our community continuing to think about our heroes on the frontline and wanting to play an active part in their protection. We can’t say thank you enough!”

Staff from RUMC give a thumbs up as thank for the hand sanitizer donation from Rubsam & Horrmann Brewing Company and Kings County Distillery.
