Philip E. Otterbeck

Dr. Philip E. Otterbeck is the Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC), where he also serves at the Chief of the Division of Endocrinology. 

He graduated from New York University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in Russian and Slavic Studies. He earned a doctor of medicine degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he also completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism.  Dr. Otterbeck is a clinical assistant professor of medicine at SUNY Downstate and is also a candidate for an MBA in Health Services Administration through SUNY Oswego.

In addition to maintaining a busy endocrine practice, at RUMC, he has served as Vice President of the Medical staff, the Chair of the Credentials committee, and as a member of the Medical Executive Committee.  He has been a member of the Richmond University Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees since 2013.

A native Staten Islander born at the former St. Vincent’s Hospital, Dr. Otterbeck has received numerous awards for community service and serves on the board of the Eden II and Genesis Foundation.  A popular lecturer, he has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in the areas of diabetes, obesity, and vitamin D metabolism.

He resides on Staten Island with his wife Victoria and their children Ava Grace and Philip Thomas.
