Public Relations and Marketing

Alex Lutz has been part of Richmond University Medical Center for nearly 6 years, rising from the position of Director of Public Relations and Marketing, to Vice President. In his role, Alex develops advertising materials to promote the services, staff, and activities of the hospital to the community, businesses, and public across Staten Island and beyond. He also works closely with community leaders and stakeholders to further the mission and public perception of the hospital, acts as the hospital’s designated spokesperson and oversees all of the public and community relations activities throughout the year.

In the six years Alex has been at RUMC, he and his team have developed innovative ways to promote the hospital and its world class services through a combination of print, digital, and social media marketing, including a highly successful podcast series, RUMC Connections, and a television series, RUMC Vital Signs, that airs on Community Media of Staten Island, Channel 34.

In the 6 years Alex has been at RUMC, the Public Relations and Marketing Department has earned over 60 marketing awards at international competitions, winning awards for creativity, design, messaging and overall effectiveness.  

Alex joined the RUMC family after serving as Executive Director of the Staten Island Not For Profit Association, now known as NonProfit Staten Island, a membership organization that assists Staten Island’s nonprofits with training, resources and funding. From 2005 to 2016, Alex served as Senior Regional Director of Community and Government Relations for the American Red Cross in Greater New York. Alex was honored by the National Red Cross during his tenure with the organization for his leadership and for his community outreach activities in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Alex has also served as a Chief of Staff to a New York City Council Member, worked in television media, and served as a reporter and editor in chief for a local newspaper in Queens, New York, a position he landed immediately after graduating from college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from St. John’s University’s Queens campus.
