Richard Salhany, MBA
Senior Vice President for Medical Operations

Richard Salhany is responsible for the medical staff administration and professional services division. In addition to creating strategic alliances with the medical community, he is responsible for the development of new programs and physician practices. He also works administratively with RUMC’s extensive graduate medical education program with eight residency programs and two medical school affiliations. Mr. Salhany also oversees the Communications and Community Benefits departments and, as a senior executive, represents the hospital in various venues.

Before this appointment, Mr. Salhany was the Chief Operating Officer of RUMC, working tirelessly with the Board of Trustees and medical staff to elevate the hospital’s quality of care. Under his leadership, the hospital was restructured to focus on service, quality, people, finance and growth. Since then, the hospital has achieved its highest patient satisfaction rankings and was the recipient of the Press Ganey Compass Award.

A graduate of the College of Staten Island, Mr. Salhany earned his MBA at Wagner College. Mr. Salhany is an ordained deacon with the Archdiocese of New York at Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church, Tottenville.

He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Cardiovascular Administrator with the American Academy of Medical Administrators, and a Diplomate in Laboratory Management with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He is a recipient of various awards for his service to the community and achievements, including the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, New York State Certificate of Merit, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Business Achievement Award, EDEN II Dr. Anthony Moretti Business Leadership Award, Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) Stanley/Smith Award, American Cancer Society Sword of Hope Award and the Louis Caporicci Community Service Award for his service to the community of Staten Island.
