RUMC Announces Appointment of Joseph Saporito, CPA as New Chief Financial Officer

Brings over 35 years of high-level financial experience to serve the Staten Island community

 

Staten Island, NY STATEN ISLAND, NY ― Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) President and CEO Daniel J. Messina, Ph.D., LNHA, FACHE today announced that Joseph (Joe) Saporito, CPA has joined the hospital as its new Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Saporito, who assumed his duties on August 3rd, most recently served as Vice President – Finance at NYU Langone Medical Center (NYULMC) in Manhattan.

“Since joining RUMC last April, a major priority of mine has been to build on the exceptional team in place and help further our operational performance by attracting top talent in vacant slots,” stated Dr. Messina. “Joe Saporito brings decades of experience in executive positions in health care and finance to our hospital and I am certain that he will be an invaluable member of our team in ensuring that we make the most of our available resources and engage in strategic planning for the future.”

While at NYU Langone Medical Center, Mr. Saporito was responsible for; financial planning, budgeting, benchmarking, decision support and regulatory reporting. He was a member of the leadership team of the medical center within a corporate structure that includes; NYU Hospital Center (NYUHC), a tertiary acute health care provider, and NYU School of Medicine (NYUSOM), a medical school, research enterprise and faculty group practice. While there, Mr. Saporito developed and maintained the 10 year financial plan for the Medical Center.

Prior to joining NYULMC, Mr. Saporito was with KPMG, LLP (the global accounting and professional services firm) for approximately 30 years; retiring in 2009 as the Partner in Charge of KPMG’s Northeast Region Healthcare Advisory Services Practice. During his career at KPMG he provided a diverse array of advisory and auditing services to; health care, managed care and life science industry clients throughout the region and country. 

Mr. Saporito currently serves as an adjunct professor at Baruch College, teaching Healthcare Finance in the Healthcare MBA program. He has also authored several articles in health care publications and is a former adjunct professor at the Pace University School of Law.

Prior to joining NYULMC, Mr. Saporito was with KPMG, LLP (the global accounting and professional services firm) for approximately 30 years; retiring in 2009 as the Partner in Charge of KPMG’s Northeast Region Healthcare Advisory Services Practice. During his career at KPMG he provided a diverse array of advisory and auditing services to; health care, managed care and life science industry clients throughout the region and country. 

A graduate of Iona College with a BBA in Accounting, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of CPAs and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
