Last week, the Mid Island Rotary held a special party they had been planning for months. The guests of honor were the children and adolescents in the pediatric unit as well as the pediatric oncology families at Richmond University Medical Center.

Matthew Maietta, President of the Mid Island Rotary shared, “It's wonderful to be able to help in the community we live. Often times you make a decision to impact someone's life and they how no idea how much they actually impact yours. That is most definitely the case with these wonderful children.”

The festivities began at 4pm with children’s crafts, pizza and sweets, and of course a visit from Santa Claus. Each child received a toy, including the siblings of pediatric cancer patients. Rosemarie Stazzone, Chief Operating Officer & Chief Nurse Officer at the hospital says the generosity is appreciated. “The Mid Island Rotary put a great deal of thought and care into making this party a success for our families. Their gifts to our patients and their families is heartwarming – their holiday spirit brought happiness to our pediatric unit.”

Other groups have graciously donated toys, including the SI Panthers team and Toys for Tots. Groups that want to donate toys to the pediatric unit at the hospital can contact Erika Hellstrom, Vice President for Development at 718-818-2104.
