Monsignor James Dorney
Monsignor James Dorney, Pastor of St. Peter’s Church since 1986, has been serving as Regional Vicar on Staten Island since 1998. In this role, he is a friend to all on Staten Island and a community leader.

He graduated from St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers in 1958 and did post-graduate studies in Spanish at Catholic University in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Ordained on May 31, 1958, Monsignor Dorney came to Staten Island in 1976 and served as Associate Pastor at St. Margaret Mary’s Church. Since acting as Administrator at St. Peter’s in 1983, he has taken on the role of Chaplain with the city police department, serves as Catholic Chaplain to the United States Coast Guard at Fort Wadsworth and serves as Chaplain to the Richmond Division of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. He is also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and an honorary member of the Notre Dame Club of Staten Island.
