Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program
The Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) provides round-the-clock emergency care for all psychiatric crises. It consists of three components that include (1) Triage/Screening Unit where triage/screening services, full psychiatric evaluations and acute crisis intervention & treatment will be provided for individuals with apparent psychiatric symptoms; (2) Extended Observation Unit where individuals can be evaluated and observed for up to 72 hours after admission from the Triage/Screening Unit; and, (3) Mobile Crisis Outreach Services which provides outreach and crisis assessment to individuals in the community. Our CPEP is located at the Bard Avenue campus.
Evaluation and Referral Services
Everyone who comes to us for care receives a comprehensive evaluation, the first step in developing an individualized treatment plan. Call 718-818-6132 for services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, either by appointment or on a walk-in basis.
The RUMC Inpatient Psychiatric Units have 55 beds for adults in the acute phase of a psychiatric illness and 10 inpatient beds for children. Adult and child/adolescent beds are located at the Bard Avenue campus.
Our specialized inpatient programs at RUMC serve adults, adolescents and children who need an acute level of services. A multidisciplinary staff provides individual therapy, medication management, patient/family education and rehabilitative activities. Our programs include:
General Psychiatry Unit
The program evaluates and stabilizes adult patients in an acute phase of a psychiatric illness through intensive short-term inpatient treatment.
Child and Adolescent Program
The program offers comprehensive assessment and treatment for ages 3 to 18. Disorders such as conduct disturbances, depression and psychosis are treated in a structured environment, with an emphasis on family participation in treatment. A school program, staffed by state-certified teachers working closely with the pupil's home school district, is an important component of the program.
We provide individual, group and family therapy, medication management and a variety of support services for families and caregivers. We also provide the following specialized services:
Gamblers' Treatment Center
The Gamblers' Treatment Center offers gamblers, their families and other loved ones a comprehensive clinical program aimed at achieving abstinence from problem gambling and developing a better quality of life. Services include: counseling, diagnostic and psychiatric services; vocational guidance; and information and referral services and education and training programs.
Continuing Day Treatment Program
We offer specialized services for persons dually diagnosed with mental illness and mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities.
